We are excited to invite you to actively participate in the XXIst Congress of the ESS, taking place in the beautiful city of Dubrovnik, Croatia. This congress, marking a historic first in Croatia, promises to be a pivotal gathering for healthcare professionals, researchers, and experts focused on advancing the understanding and treatment of shock, trauma, sepsis and/or allied disciplines in critical care. The participants from a variety of profiles, such as medical practitioners, researchers engaged to both pre-clinical and clinical studies, junior and senior research scientists, students, as well as professionals affiliated with private research enterprises are welcome! The event will provide a unique platform to share your knowledge, engage with colleagues, and contribute to the ongoing dialogue in the field of critical care. We invite you to submit your abstracts, and we encourage your active involvement in what promises to be an intellectually enriching experience for all.

ESS Summer School

This year’s DFG-funded Summer School (by the FOR5417) bridges critical care and emergency medicine with cutting-edge research on inflammation, immune dysregulation, surgery, and post-traumatic complications. Hands-on sessions will cover acute treatment concepts for severely injured patients, linking clinical practice with the latest trauma and sepsis research. The program is designed for young scientists, healthcare professionals, and motivated students eager to explore the clinical aspects of their field.

Awards for Junior Scientists:
(Students or ≤5 years post-doc/intern/resident, not holding a professorship)
ENIAC:
A key event at the ESS Congress, the European New Investigator Award Competition (ENIAC) recognizes outstanding research by junior scientists. Eligible (≤5 years post-doc/intern/resident, not holding a professorship) can apply via the abstract submission template.
ESS Travel Award:
This award supports the participation of junior investigators (students or ≤5 years post-doc/intern/resident, not holding a professorship). To apply, candidates must email to Sabine.Schilling-Weinke@uniklinik-ulm.de, stating their intent to apply for the ESS Travel Award.
ESS Best Poster Award:
This award recognizes outstanding research presented in a poster format. No application is required; all posters will be considered. The awards will be selected by each respective "Award Committee", whose composition will be transparently disclosed to all participants during the congress.
ESS Presidential Award:
This prestigious award honors exceptional research quality, innovation, and impact. No application is required; all eligible contributions will be evaluated.
Travel Award by the FOR5417:
This award supports participants of the ESS Summer School. Application is automatically upon registration for the ESS Summer School.
